Week 14 Project 3

3 Drawings
This week, I continued my theme of reflection of light and finding reflection in/on everyday objects, and I again took pictures of things around the art room in order to demonstrate this "ordinary" setting.  I wanted to really make the light's reflections stand out and contrast with the surrounding drawing, so I focused on using a wider range of tones, with the darker tones being really dark and the lightest tones being really white so that you can understand the reflection of light in the pieces.  I also tried to make the shiny objects (the ones reflecting the light) stand out from the background in order to further highlight this reflection of light.  For example, in the first drawing, I tried to make the metal parts of the clip look shiny, smooth, and reflective, whereas I tried to make the background look less smooth and more scratchy/texturized without the reflective quality of the metal.

More Classwork

Drawings
In class, I also tried to be looser and less precise in my drawing, letting the material do the work. I also used black paper and white and black pastels, which is a combination I hadn't used before for this project, and I like the way these materials blend on the black paper. I tried to use more tones and shades, and blending the white pastel with the black in the dark paper allowed me to do so.

Week 13 Project 3

3 Drawings
This week, I used a bit of a different style and "loosened up" more instead of trying to be more precise like I normally do in drawing what I'm looking at; instead of using a sponge and pastels in order to get the exact colors and edges that I want, I used materials like acrylic paint with paintbrushes and water, which didn't allow me to be as precise in what I was doing. I also took pictures this week and used these pictures to produce drawings that represent reflections we see in everyday life that we may go without noticing and appreciating.

Week 12 Project 3

3 Drawings
This week, I focused more on reflections you see every day. I took pictures of a chair, a lightbulb, and a tack, each being an everyday item, and tried to bring out these interesting reflections and shapes created by reflected light and images using charcoal, pastel, and a sponge. I also tried to work on using the whole space of the paper and making the composition with some meaning and thought put into it.

Model Drawing (Classwork) - Cut Paper

This is from the week where we used gray, black, and white paper to create spots in order to improve our ability to see spots; we were forced to find the spots because we only had three colors and couldn't really create outlines with the paper, but we could go in and use charcoal or pastel to add into the piece.

Model Drawings (Classwork)

These are drawings from model session in class, and I tried to use more middle tones in order to create shading and the give the drawing volume.  I also tried to use more layers of pastel to create a thicker texture and to add more to the pieces.

Classwork

I drew this in order to demonstrate the way light reflects off of the clear outside of a lightbulb, and also reflects images around it. It's kind of like a bubble, which I think is cool because on a bubble all you are seeing is the environmental image being reflected off of a round, clear surface.

This piece was inspired by the Rorschach ink blot idea along with Jackson Pollock's splatter paintings, so I used both ideas to create a piece that has physical reflection but also random splattered marks.

This is just a piece of paper I had behind my pieces when I was working on other drawings, but I liked the marks on it, so I am using it as possible inspiration for markmaking in another piece.

I wanted to practice using different shades while also filling in space and using the whole page for my drawing, so I took a picture of a faucet and did a quick drawing using pastels and a wet sponge.
